Not Staying 100%
Right on the eve of the Mercury Retrograde,
we've gone and decided that the Index, heretofore banished has risen all
the way to 100%...in favor of leaving. I'm not sure what the final straw
was but I went to visit my parents and just knew that I needed to give up
the I-live-in-the-best-place-on-earth myth and get a clue. Yes the weather
here is divine and I live in a well-fed, coastal, urbane, cosmopolitan,
liberal bubble...but ultimately, it's not enough.
We hate our jobs. What was good about them has soured long ago. We love
our house and land but it's an overpriced oasis surrounded by a troubling
transitional moat. We deplore our city government, our regional government
and our governor. To boot, my aging mom & dad are a two hour plane ride
away and my step daughter & her family can't ever afford to buy a house
here. Either they implausibly relegate themselves to cramped apartment
living forever or they have to move.
And so like so many others, we're loading up the kids and cats and going to
the next imperfect Canna, Arizona.
Yes, I know Arizona is in a drought but California is in a free fall.
We've started telling our friends and I can see their eyes glare "traitor!"
Still, C & have got one life to live. And right now, we're choosing to
take the detour.
